Metal components undergoing continuous and/or intermittent exposure to corrosive salt environments, caustic solvents, thermal shock conditions and/or extreme temperatures from -375° F to 1200° F (-226°C to 649°C) are often excellent candidates for SermeTel protection. The coatings are extremely ductile, and can withstand the pressures of most industrial processes without cracking or peeling. They are also unaffected by oils, greases, fuels, hydraulic fluids and similar materials.

SermeTel coatings have been proven in use for decades on a wide variety of industrial components made from iron, steel, stainless steel, nickel, titanium, magnesium and other frequently used metals.

Aqueous Corrosion
Consumption of a metal by its reaction with aqueous solutions (usually containing chlorides or other salts) to produce oxide and hydroxide compounds. Rust, for example, is iron oxide formed when iron and carbon steels react with water. Rusting is accelerated when chloride salts are added to the water.

Erosion
Loss of metal due to cutting by a sharp material which is harder than the substrate. In most industrial environments, the hard, cutting abrasive is carried at some velocity in the air, gas or liquid stream moving against the surface of the part.

Corrosion/Erosion
Accelerated loss of metal caused when corrosion occurs in the presence of an abrasive media. Abrasive particles remove the soft or friable corrosion products (such as rust on steel) to expose more clean substrate to corrosion. (The abrasive particles need not be harder than the metal substrate, but only harder than the corrosion product.) The net effect is rapid loss of material. This phenomena is often confused with erosion.
