Microbiologically induced corrosion of copper intrauterine devices “TCu380A” and “Nova T” by Enterobacter sp. in a synthetic intrauterine medium was investigated.

  • The corrosion behaviour was evaluated applying cyclic voltammetry and Tafel Polarization.
  • The surface morphology was determined using scanning electron microscopy
  • The corrosion products were analyzed using energy dispersive X-rays
  • The biofilm composition was examined by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy with an attenuated total reflectance device.
